Consumer prices in the United States continued to surge at the start of 2022, as inflation hit a 40-year high in January. The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) was up 7.5 percent compared to a year ago, while the core index excluding more volatile food and energy prices increased 6.0 percent over the last 12 months.
