This week my family is traveling to Missouri for the Rosary, funeral, and time together as we say goodbye to my Uncle Bernard.
He was truly an angel on earth. Over 31 years ago, after my Dad had endured a year of dialysis while waiting for a donor, my uncle didn’t hesitate when asked if he’d be tested. He turned out to be a match — and without a second thought, he said “yes.” His gift of a kidney gave my Dad decades more of life, memories, and moments we otherwise wouldn’t have had.
Bernard’s life and his selfless act remind me of something I often share in my work: each of us will eventually leave our businesses, our careers, and even this world. Sometimes it will be by choice, sometimes not. The difference is whether we are prepared, whether the transition happens with intention, and whether we leave a legacy that blesses others.
My uncle leaves behind a legacy of generosity and love. May we all strive to do the same — in our families, our work, and our communities.
